Tsavorite garnets have a bright green colour, which is often compared with that of emeralds. Its name derives from the Tsavo area on the Kenya/Tanzania border, where particularly fine green garnets were found in the 1960s.

This is a rare variety of garnet, and its colour can vary from a fresh grassy green to a deep emerald green.
