Peridot is the gem variety of the mineral olivine, and is found in lava and volcanic rocks. In exceptionally rare cases, it can also be found in meteorites.

This bright gemstone is known for its golden-green tones, which make a fresh alternative to darker shades of green. Although the saturation of peridot may vary stone to stone because of the cut, the colour of this precious stone is inert, and therefore always yellowish green.

Peridot is a relatively hard gemstone, so is well suited to all kinds of jewellery. We recommend avoiding your peridot coming into contact with perfumes, cosmetics and alcohol, as these can damage your stone. To clean this gemstone we recommend using warm soapy water and a soft brush (we use an electric toothbrush), and drying with a soft cloth.

Peridot is the birthstone for August.
