Garnets are perhaps one of the best-known gemstones and are usually very durable. They've been popular for thousands of years with evidence of Egyptian Pharaohs wearing them.
Garnets aren't just red; we stock a range of garnets in lots of different colours! The name "garnet", however, derives from the Latin name "granatum", which means pomegranate, due to the garnet crystals resembling the seeds of a pomegranate.
Garnet is a relatively hard stone, so it is ideal for all kinds of jewellery. We would recommend cleaning this gemstone with warm soapy water and a soft brush (we use an electric toothbrush), and drying with a soft cloth.
Garnet is the birthstone for January.
