This limited edition timepiece, with a run of 7,000 pieces worldwide, is within a collection to commemorate the 145th Anniversary of the beginnings of Seiko as a Tokyo clock and watch repair shop in 1881.
From the Alpinist collection, first launched in 1959, these watches were originally designed for Japanese 'Yama-otoko' mountain men, to be reliable in treacherous terrain. In keeping with the collection's adventurous spirit, this timepiece features a rotating compass bezel and is water resistant to 20 bar/200 metres.
This limited edition features a dial colour known as 'Edo Murasaki' or 'Edo Purple' which is a traditional Japanese colour that symbolises hope for the future, and the refined beauty of the Edo period in Tokyo.
'Cathedral style' hour and minute hands are accompanied by classic Arabic numerals and wedge-shaped indices with the traditional Alpinist logo under the Seiko logo, which featured on the very first 1950s Laurel Alpinist. The dial is protected by sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface for enhanced clarity and legibility.
The case back features a Limited Edition engraving alongside the 'Mountain Device' logo, an aspect of the first design indicating the field nature of the watch. The stainless steel case has an applied super-hard coating for increased scratch resistance and shine. It is paired with an LWG-approved leather strap.
The in-house automatic 6R55 calibre accurate to -15/+25 seconds per day, a recent advance in Seiko in-house automatic timekeeping with its excellent power reserve of 72 hours (3 full days) once fully wound, beating at 21,600 vph, equipped with 24 jewels.
