The name "aquamarine" comes from the Latin for "sea water", and colours can vary from watery to deep shades of blue and greenish blue.

Along with emerald and morganite, aquamarine is part of the beryl family of gemstones. It is a hard-wearing gemstone and is often found in large crystals. Aquamarine can look slightly cloudy if it's allowed to get dirty (for example, soap and hand cream can build up in the back of the setting). We would recommend cleaning it with warm soapy water and a soft brush (we use an electric toothbrush), and drying with a soft cloth.

Aquamarine is the birthstone for March.
